Main Dishes

A main dish is the featured or primary dish in a meal consisting of several courses. The main course can also be called the entree; however, in some menujs the main course follows the entree, and the salad course. It is sometimes called the meat course. The main dish is usually the heaviest, heartiest, and most complex or substantive dish on a menu. The main ingredient is usually meat, fish or fowl; in vegetarian meals the main course sometimes attempts to mimic a meat course.

A side dish, sometimes referred to as a side order or simply a side, is a food item that accompanies the entree or or main course at a meal. A typical meal with a meat-based main dish might include one vegetable side dish, somtimes in the form of a salad, and one starch side dish, such as bread, potatoes, rice, or pasta. Some common sides are: French Fries, Baked Potatoes, Soups, Salad(often a "side" salad), Dinner rolls or other Breads.

Desserts

Dessert is a course tht typically comes at the end of a meal, usually consisting of sweet food but sometimes of a strongly-flavored one, such as some cheeses.
